Abbco Tower

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Abbco Tower is a 48 storey skyscraper in Sharjah , United Arab Emirates. The building is 190 m high and is therefore one of the skyscrapers .

Construction began in 2005 and is named after a subsidiary of the project-developing real estate company Bonyan International Investment Group from Dubai. The construction company (general contractor) was Ali Mousa & Sons Contracting, the planning comes from Dimensions Engineering Consultants. The total construction cost was 110 million UAE dirhams . The opening took place in 2006. The building is located in the city center east of Al Nahda Park . The tower is used for residential purposes.

On May 5, 2020, at 9:04 p.m. local time, a fire broke out on the tenth floor, affecting the floors above. The building was evacuated and the fire was extinguished after several hours. There were only a few injuries, but serious damage to the structure. The cause of the fire is still unclear. A non-fireproof facade cladding probably contributed to the rapid expansion, the use of which has been banned in new buildings in the emirate since 2016, but has not yet been replaced everywhere in older buildings.
