Withdrawal bleeding

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The withdrawal bleeding is a slight bleeding from the lining of the uterus due to a reduced availability of the sex hormone estrogen without a simultaneous increase in progesterone . It can occur after discontinuation of hormones as a result of a withdrawal of estrogen or progesterone and as a result of an anovulatory cycle. This occurs, for example, when you take a break from taking the pill.

The withdrawal bleeding is comparable to menstruation and is therefore also referred to as pseudo- menstruation . In a broader, physiological, sense, menstruation is also a withdrawal bleeding.
