The abbreviations of the Reichseisenbahnen Elsass-Lothringen are those that are used in the wagon registers of the Reichseisenbahnen Alsace-Lorraine. These abbreviations are also put together in this form in the two registers - one for passenger cars and one for freight cars - each on a cover sheet (see also the adjacent illustration of the original from the 1911 WV). In the following, reference is made to the individual columns of the directories in which the abbreviations explained here are located.

Column steering axles

The standard type of club steering axles was not introduced until around 1890. In Germany z. B. all cars with a wheelbase> 4000 mm equipped with steering axles.

Column signal holder

The information on the various signal holders is summarized here. These in addition to those for the K.Bay.Sts.B. prescribed signal holders were necessary so that the vehicles equipped with them could move to the territory of a foreign company. The respective abbreviation indicates either the country or the company in the country.

Column underframe

This is where the information on the various types of base frame is summarized. In other words, it is indicated which materials were used for the basic structure of the sub-frame.

E. the base is made entirely of IRON
H the base is made entirely of WOOD
E, H Except for the "head sleepers" (buffer beams), the underframe is made of IRON. The head sills, on the other hand, are made of WOOD
HE, E the side members and other underframe parts are made of WOOD and IRON, the head sills of IRON. This may mean that the side members were made of WOOD which were planked with IRON.

Identifiers of the compartment types

In addition to the explanations according to the columns in the various wagon lists, here are descriptions of the abbreviations used to designate the types of compartments.

I, II, III, IV The various classes of transport are marked with Roman numerals. Both the number of compartments and the number of seats are given. If no separate column is available, the number of seats for military transport is displayed with the value in brackets.
A. Abortion or abortion with washing facilities
B. Letter and letter sorting compartment
D. Service compartment for different tasks
G Luggage compartment for both passenger and freight wagons
P Packing or parcel compartment in mail wagons
V Compartment for small animals and / or dogs
Z Lockable customs compartment, access only for a limited group of people.
