African Christian Democratic Party

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) ( Afrikaans : Afrika Christians Democratic Party ; English : African Christian Democratic Party ) is a political party in South Africa . It was founded in 1993 and aims to represent “ Christians who believe in the Bible ” and “those who have a high respect for moral values”.

The election manifesto from 2000 is directed against the distribution of condoms and the propagation of safer sex as a measure against the spread of HIV . The ACDP is of the opinion that the condom campaign must be stopped and instead abstinence and fidelity in marriage should be promoted.

The party is led by Kenneth Meshoe . In the 2009 elections, the ACDP halved to 0.8% of the vote, which is why the number of its MPs in South Africa's national assembly , the lower house, fell to three out of a total of 400. However, after Helen Zille's move to the provincial parliament of Western Cape with Grant Haskin , she was the managing mayor of Cape Town from April 29, 2009 until Dan Plato (DA) was elected on May 13, 2009 . Finally, Haskin was dismissed as deputy mayor by the City Council on May 27, 2009. He also lost his post on the Mayoral Committee (Mayco). Ian Neilson (DA) was elected to succeed him as Deputy Mayor. Thereupon the ACDP terminated all coalitions with the DA in the Western Cape. After the 2014 elections , it will continue to have three MPs in the National Assembly. Five years later, it was able to improve again to 0.8% and four seats in the 2019 elections in South Africa .
