The Aibugirsee (Abi Yukir, Ozero Aybukir, Ozero Aybugir) is located in the Turkmen part of the Amudarja plain on the western edge of the Aral Sea area . The previous connection to the Aral Sea was interrupted by drying up and desertification . The Aibugirsee is therefore to be regarded as an independent body of water.
The map from 1850 shows the Aibugir as part of the Aral Sea. The satellite image shows the most south-westerly foothills.
