Air Movement and Control Association International

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA) is an independent, international, and non-commercial organization that develops, sets, and monitors standards and certifications for ventilation equipment and applications. Its headquarters are in Arlington Heights, Illinois . A comparable institution in Europe is, for example, Eurovent or TÜV . The AMCA seal is a mark of quality on the American and Asian markets.

The air technology applications certified by the AMCA mainly include fans , ventilators and air curtains as well as air measuring stations and laboratory test benches for measuring e.g. B. Air and sound performance.

The AMCA was founded in 1955 and emerged from the merger of the predecessor organizations National Association of Fan Manufacturers (NAFM), Power Fan Manufacturers Association (PFMA) and the Industrial Unit Heater Association (IUHA). The organization is based in Arlington Heights , Illinois . The organization's president is Michael Barry. Manufacturers of ventilation applications such as fans, ventilators and air curtains as well as air measuring stations and laboratory test stands can become members of the AMCA.

goals and tasks

The organization sees its task in promoting the growth of the industry for ventilation applications and reconciling it with the public interest. This includes, among other things, the support of manufacturers in the development and compliance with test methods for product certification as well as representative tasks that affect the industry.

AMCA standards

AMCA issues standards and norms for the development, manufacture and certification of ventilation applications and test stations. These standards are notices and recommendations for technicians and engineers who can be consulted in the design, development, evaluation and troubleshooting of ventilation applications. Several standards and guidelines published by the AMCA have been recognized and adopted by the American National Standards Institute . AMCA International is represented with its member companies and laboratories in committees of the International Organization for Standardization and thus participates in the development of worldwide industrial standards.

Certification

The AMCA certificate is mainly known for the certification of fans . Manufacturers of ventilation and air conditioning units can receive the AMCA seal with a certification program, the Certified Rating Program (CRP), if the units comply with the norms and standards prescribed there. In the case of fans, it is mainly air and sound power that are measured using measurements. The air output includes the measurement of the physical quantities volume flow, air pressure, power and efficiency as well as the associated characteristic curve. The sound power is made up of the suction and pressure side sound power of the device. Other ventilation applications such as fans and evaporators are tested for pressure drop, leakage behavior and resistance to splashing water, for example.
