Acoustic sieve chain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An acoustic sieve chain is a meaningful arrangement of cavity masses and cavity springs , which together form a complex filter system. An acoustic filter chain can form an acoustic low-pass filter, for example. The functionality of an acoustic sieve chain corresponds to that of a Helmholtz absorber.

The filter properties of an acoustic sieve chain are only retained if the cavity dimensions are small compared to the wavelength of the frequency to be filtered. This condition is no longer met in the high-frequency range.

Acoustic filter chains are used in vehicle acoustics in the exhaust systems of motor vehicles.
