Acceleration
Acceleration (from Latin acceleratio , "acceleration") denotes:
- Acceleration , in physics
- the time difference by which the fixed stars reach their highest position earlier from day to day (culminating); it is 3 minutes 56.6 seconds and is equal to the difference between the mean solar day and sidereal day
- the very slight apparent increase in the moon's orbital time around the earth due to the tides decelerating the earth
- a gradually increasing approach of mechanical clocks, especially with new marine chronometers, see: escapement
- the acceleration of development in adolescents (the opposite of retardation); see: Acceleration (biology)
