The Albatros Dr.I was a German test fighter from 1917.
history
After the very agile Sopwith Triplane appeared , a real three- decker boom broke out in Germany . Almost all manufacturers started with the construction of three-deckers or converted existing aircraft. This is how the Albatros Dr.I was created with a 8.7 m wingspan based on the Albatros DV . Although the three-decker could not prevail against the faster double and later monoplane in the medium term, the initial successes achieved with the Fokker Dr.I aroused interest at first. But the boom soon ebbed again, because the air resistance was simply too great to compete with models like the SE5 or SPAD S.XIII . Nevertheless, another three-decker was built at Albatros, this time a completely new design.
Albatros Dr.II
