All-Malaya Council of Joint Action

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The All-Malaya Council of Joint Action (AMCJA) was an amalgamation of political and civic organizations in Malaya and existed between 1946 and 1948 to draft a post-war constitution for the country and thus prepare the country's independence from Great Britain .

In December 1946 the Pan-Malayan Council of Joint Action was formed. It served as an unification movement against the revised version of the Malaya Federation (Federation of Malaya), revised by the Colonial Office ( Colonial Office ) in view of the British withdrawal from the controversial proposal for a Malayan Union (Malayan Union Proposal). The core of the council was a group of left-wing non-Malays from Singapore who had previously founded the Malay Democratic Union . They were against separating Singapore from Malaya and rather harbored a deeper dislike of the proposal for a Malay League.

In August 1947, the Pan-Malayan Council of Joint Action was renamed the All-Malaya Council of Joint Action, which the radical Malay Nationalist Party and its offshoots also joined. This group organized a protest strike in October of the same year and shortly afterwards published a proposal for the constitution.

Because of her close association with the Malaya Communist Party , her efforts have been in vain. The Malay Federation was founded on February 1, 1948.
