AllShare (interface)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AllShare is a proprietary interface for the wireless transfer of content between various Samsung devices such as smartphones, tablets and televisions. Technically, AllShare is a control protocol that was developed by Samsung . AllShare devices also implement manufacturer-independent protocols such as Miracast , Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA and thus also work together with devices from other manufacturers.

Range of functions

AllShare transfers music, videos and photos from or to AllShare devices to other compatible AllShare, Miracast or DLNA devices. Samsung televisions can be controlled remotely from mobile devices using remote apps . AllShare transfers screen content from a Wi-Fi Direct-enabled mobile device to a Miracast-compatible screen.

Opening efforts

According to its own statements, Samsung would like to open the AllShare system to other manufacturers as well. In 2012, Samsung introduced the AllShare Framework for developers, but certain functions are reserved for Samsung devices. In 2012, Samsung introduced the AllShare Cast, an HDMI dongle for the television, which also enables AllShare on devices from other manufacturers.

criticism

As with other manufacturer ecosystems, a high level of interoperability is only guaranteed if all devices come from one brand. It thus forces the customer to buy all Samsung devices.
