history

In the 1969 elections, the APRP achieved one of a total of 140 seats in the National Assembley, i.e. around 1.8 percent of all votes. Through its role in the National Assembly, the APRP exerted an opposition party influence on the government under Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia . The government under Busia was replaced on January 13, 1972 by the second military coup in Ghana by Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong .

Acheampong suspended Ghana's constitution and issued a general ban on political parties, which the APRP also had to comply with. The APRP was dissolved in January 1972.
