Representation of an Alphyn

An Alphyn (from the Germanic word for “pursuer” or “wolf”) is a mythical creature.

description

The Alphyn is similar to the heraldic tiger, but is stockier and equipped with tufts of hair covering the body, a full mane and a long, thin tongue. Another feature worth mentioning is the knotted tail, reminiscent of a Celtic design and similar to that of a griffin . Sometimes he is depicted with eagle / dragon claws or goat hooves on the front legs, and occasionally all four feet are drawn like the paws of a lion.
