history
The cemetery was laid out in 1815 on the outskirts of Bahnhofstrasse next to the Horstmann-Dertenkötter smithy. It was used as a cemetery for the Catholic parish until the 1930s. Then a new cemetery was built on Westbeverner Strasse and only a few funerals took place. In April 1945, the Ostbevern war cemetery was laid out on the site. It was intended for 33 soldiers who fell in the fighting for Ostbevern on the night of April 3 to 4, 1945 and were buried in a bomb crater. In 1976 the cemetery was abandoned and handed over to the political community by the parish. The graves were leveled and a memorial was created for the fallen. In 2003, the war memorial of the First World War was rebuilt on the site. On April 26, 2015, with the support of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge, the Lions Club Ostbevern and various local companies and companies, a memorial stele made of Corten steel was erected with the slogan Pax optima rerum . It lists the names of 346 Ostbeveran citizens who perished in the First and Second World Wars as well as the Franco-German War, the American Civil War and the War of Liberation in 1815.
