AmberMed is a social medical facility in Vienna that offers medical care for people without health insurance. The facility has existed in various forms since 2004. AmberMed is currently a cooperation between the Austrian Red Cross and the Diakonie refugee service. This cooperation between the two organizations has existed since 2010. The rough division of tasks consists in the fact that the Austrian Red Cross (ÖRK) provides the infrastructure - AmberMed is housed in the disaster relief center of the WCC and the operational business is managed by the health and psychotherapy department of the Diakonie refugee service becomes.

history

In early 2000, some medical professionals recognized the need to provide medical care to uninsured people. As a result, the Amber project was started on January 12, 2004 by the Diakonie refugee service and initially served the medical care of homeless people and asylum seekers without insurance cover. Over time, more and more uninsured migrants and Austrians came to receive medical support. Since August 2006 the facility has been called AmberMed and there is a cooperation between Diakonie refugee service and the Austrian Red Cross .

Financial

Despite the numerous voluntary employees, the generous donations of medication and the free provision of medical aids such as glasses, walking aids and orthopedic insoles, AmberMed is dependent on financial support. A part is financed by public funds ( WGKK , FSW, BMGF ), around 50% have to be covered by private donations. Private donors, company donations and sponsors secure the existence.

Side projects

Meduna and Better Start: Women's health groups for everything related to pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and nutrition. In addition, a midwife comes to the gynecologist's ordinations on a regular basis.

Jugend & Amber: a range of outreach workshops for and with young asylum seekers on the topics of mental health, identity development and conflict-free communication. The workshops are mainly led by psychotherapists.

AmberMed is an international cooperation partner of Medicine Du Monde and a member of PICUM .
