American Basketball Association (1999)

The American Basketball Association is an American semi-professional basketball league founded in 1999. It is not to be confused with the American Basketball Association , which existed from 1967 until its merger with the NBA in 1976.

Non-American teams also played in the ABA, such as the Beijing Aoshen Olympians from China or the Mexicali Sentinels and Tijuana Dragons from Mexico , as well as teams from Canada . In 2017, the only foreign team was the Shizuoka Gymrats from Japan.

Another special feature is the high rate of changing teams. In the first 15 years of the league alone, more than 350 teams gave up the game, changed the league or did not even start.
