Amnioscope

The amnioscope is a special form of the endoscope . It is used to examine (mirror) the amniotic sac during pregnancy .

Form and structure

The amnioscope is a conically shaped metal tube with an outer diameter of 12 to 20 millimeters.

use

The amnioscope is inserted through the cervical canal of the uterus , which is usually continuous with the fingers . In certain diseases such as fetal hypoxia , a discoloration can be seen under cold light . The amnioscope is also used for microblood tests (MBU), the analysis of fetal blood gases .

Amnioscopy is used in high-risk pregnancies.
