Meinerzhagen Office

The Meinerzhagen office emerged in the 19th century from the rural communities of Meinerzhagen and Valbert. It existed until it was dissolved in 1969.

To the Amt Meinerzhagen belonged the communities Meinerzhagen and Valbert. It had a size of 113.39 square kilometers (1953).

history

The Meinerzhagen office was part of the Altena district, which was formed in the 18th century. It originated in the 19th century in the province of Westphalia, which at that time belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia.

While the office still had 5131 inhabitants in 1885, it had a total of 7333 inhabitants in 1939. By 1953 it continued to grow to 11,004 inhabitants. Of these, 2,069 people were displaced. At that time, about 3,000 people worked in industry, of which about 2,000 were employed in metalworking.

In 1969 the office was dissolved as part of the municipal reorganization and the two municipalities were combined to form the town of Meinerzhagen.
