Pineapple damask

The pineapple damask is the red silk fabric that was used at the court of the Habsburg monarchy .

The damask was named after its main motif, a stylized pineapple fruit that is actually pine cones. It was used exclusively for the interior decoration at the Viennese court and was mainly used as wall covering and upholstery. The state rooms and the imperial private apartments were furnished with pineapple damask.

The famous wallpaper door of the Vienna Hofburg is also covered with it. Through them, the politicians of Austria step out of the office of the Federal President when swearing in.
