Pineapple cutter
A pineapple cutter is a device for slicing pineapple fruits and is available in various designs and materials. The advantage is the simple and quick handling as well as often cleanly cut, even slices or pieces.
functionality
First, regardless of the model, a lid is cut off from the top of the whole pineapple fruit with an ordinary knife .
While with simpler models the pineapple has to be divided with a knife and the device helps to loosen the stalk and pulp , with more complex devices the cutter is turned into the open fruit from above like a corkscrew. The pulp is separated from both the outer shell and the core by vertical tubes. In some devices, a spiral-like, horizontal knife is used to cut the fruit into a long spiral like a slice (this does not allow closed rings to be created), while the pulp is removed from the stalk and fruit shell. With these devices, the meat separated from the housing and core must then be cut into correct slices with a standard knife.
Since the fruit core of the corkscrew cutter gets stuck between the knife and the handle of the pineapple cutter (see second photo from the right), the rotary handle of the cutter must be removed in order to push the core upwards.
criticism
Due to the irregular shape of the pineapple, a larger amount of pulp remains hanging on the outer shell in the belly area, while remains of the peel can already be found in the pulp in the head area. A pineapple cutter can only be used for standardized pineapple sizes, as smaller fruits disintegrate and larger fruits would produce more waste. If you cut the pineapple with a standard kitchen knife, you have the option of dealing with the unevenness of each fruit individually.
It is also said that the vitamins and enzymes of the pineapple are mainly located in the middle; which is why it is occasionally recommended to eat the fiber-rich fruit kernel if possible.
