The Andorran citizenship follows the principle of jus sanguinis .

Requirements & qualifications

By parentage

All children of Andorran citizens have a right to Andorran citizenship regardless of the place of birth.

By birth

If the child was born in Andorra and at least one parent was also born in Andorra, or has lived there for 10 years, and has a permanent residence permit, you are entitled to Andorran citizenship.

By naturalization

Andorran citizenship is relatively difficult to obtain. The person to be naturalized must have lived in Andorra for at least 10 years and have spent a large part of their training in Andorra. If the person to be naturalized has received his training abroad, the period increases to 20 years. Furthermore, the person to be naturalized must be able to prove that he has integrated well into the Andorran community. He also has to give up his other citizenships before accepting the Andorran one.

Dual citizenship

Andorran law strictly forbids dual citizens.

Loss of citizenship

Since Andorran law prohibits dual citizenship, you automatically lose your Andorran citizenship if you accept that of another country.

Visa exemption

Andorran citizens can stay freely in the Schengen area .
