Adaptation (coal and steel industry)

The term adaptation in the coal and steel industry goes back to the “Law for the Adaptation and Recovery of German Coal Mining ”, which the German Bundestag passed in 1968. This law enabled support measures for socially acceptable job cuts in the coal and steel sector.

In the etymological development of the word, miners were then sent to the "adjustment" in bridging until retirement or as a reason for early retirement, in which they receive the so-called adjustment allowance (APG).
