Contact pressure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a contact force or contact pressure force ( ) is defined as a force which presses against another body, the normal force . If the load is evenly distributed, it results from the pressure multiplied by the area. The greater the contact pressure, the higher the frictional resistance and thus also the force that can be transferred to another body without slipping. Without the pressing force on the ground we would not be able to walk because the friction between the sole of the foot and the ground would not be guaranteed.
