Incitement to racial hatred

Incitement to racial hatred ( incitation à la haine raciale ) is criminal France a criminal offense. The corresponding law came into force on July 1, 1972 and is also called loi Pleven after René Pleven . It goes back to Section 24 of the Freedom of the Press Act of 1881. This was changed when the French penal code was reformed in 1994: the previous sentence “imprisonment from one month to one year” was increased to one year.
