Antrim House
Antrim House is a historic building on Boulcott Street in New Zealand's capital Wellington . The house was built in 1905 under the direction of architects Thomas Turnbull and Sons ( William Turnbull ) for Robert Hannah, an Irish immigrant from County Antrim . It is a wooden construction made of kauri and heartwood of the Totara on a concrete foundation. Antrim House is a fine example of Edwardian and Italianate styles from the reign of Edward VII. The two-story tower- mansard-roofed house was once an impressive residence for a wealthy businessman on a large plot of land with gardens and outbuildings. Today the house and smaller lawns stand in the midst of higher modern buildings.
The building was registered as a Category I Monument by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust on November 26, 1981 . The New Zealand Monument Protection Organization has its headquarters here.
