Apocytosis , also called apocrine secretion , is a special form of exocytosis that is used for secretion . In this form of secretion, the cell constricts part of its cell body and in this way packs the substance that is to be secreted. During this process, cytoplasm is lost. In contrast, no cytoplasm is lost in eccrine / merocrine secretion . The apocrine secretion is generally recognized for the lactating mammary gland, namely for the lipid component, as well as for the apocrine sweat secretion.
