The Arado E.340 was a planned German high-speed bomber for the Arado Flugzeugwerke during World War II .

development

The aircraft was developed on the basis of the Bomber B development program announced by the Reich Ministry of Aviation (RLM) in 1939 . This included the requirement for a 600 km / h twin-engine bomber that could carry a bomb load of 2,000 kg with a range of 3,600 km or a bomb load of 6,000 kg on short distances. In addition, defensive armaments to the front and rear were required. The Bomber B was to replace the existing models from 1943, for example the Junkers Ju 88 and Dornier Do 217 .

The Arado E.340 was designed with a central fuselage gondola and two tail booms. As with several other aircraft projects from 1939 onwards, two Jumo 222 with 2,000 hp each were planned as the drive . Since the development of the Jumo 222 was delayed again and again and the priorities were placed on fighters towards the end of the war , there was no production.

The Arado E.340 is occasionally referred to in the literature as the Arado Ar 340. However, it is doubtful whether the number was officially assigned by the RLM.
