from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aristotle of Cyrene ( ancient Greek Ἀριστοτέλης ὁ Κυρηναῖος Aristotélēs hò Kyrēnaíos , Latinized Aristotle Cyrenaicus ) was a Greek ancient philosopher from Cyrene , who probably lived around the 4th century BC. Lived. Occasionally he is counted among the Cyrenaics .

Almost nothing is known about Aristotle of Cyrene. According to Diogenes Laertios , he was a teacher of the historian Clitarchus and the philosopher Simmias of Syracuse . It has been questioned whether he actually belongs to the school of the Cyrenaic. Also based on Diogenes Laertios, he wrote a work on poetics . According to Claudius Aelianus , he is said to have been of the opinion that one should not do oneself a favor because it can be difficult to repay and one appears ungrateful if one does not do that.

Clement of Alexandria mentions an athlete Aristotle of Cyrene at one point.
