Arthur G. Crane

Arthur Griswold Crane (born September 1, 1877 in Davenport Center , Delaware County , New York , †  August 11, 1955 ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ), who served as acting governor of the state of Wyoming from 1949 to 1951 .

Career

Crane received his BS from Carleton College in Northfield , Minnesota and his Masters and PhD from Columbia University . Then he was Superintendent of Schools and President of the State Normal School in Minot , North Dakota . During the First World War he was a major in the Army Sanitary Corps and wrote a volume entitled The Official Medical History of the Warthat dealt with the rehabilitation and professional training of soldiers. In 1922 he was named President of the University of Wyoming , which he remained until 1941. Then in 1939 he became president of the National Association of State Universities .

Crane won the election as Secretary of State of Wyoming in 1946 and, after Governor Lester C. Hunt had resigned, continued his duties as acting governor. During his brief tenure, he sponsored the construction of the Wyoming Home and Hospital for the elderly. After the end of his tenure as acting governor, he withdrew from public life.
