Atari Microsoft BASIC

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Atari Microsoft BASIC and Atari Microsoft BASIC II were variants of the BASIC programming language , which were brought onto the market from 1981 as a plug-in module (RX8035) or floppy disk (CX8126) for the 8-bit home computer from Atari . Atari Microsoft BASIC was a modified version of Microsoft BASIC . Atari originally wanted to use the original Microsoft BASIC on its computers, but with its approx. 11 KB it did not fit into the company's 8 KB ROM plug-in modules. Therefore, instead of Microsoft BASIC, the company Shepardson Microsystems Inc. wrote the smaller Atari BASIC , but it was not compatible with the Microsoft BASIC industry standard. That is why the latter was later offered (on larger plug-in modules) for the Atari computers.

Since the cartridge only had 16 kB of storage space, the remaining 11 kB was supplied on an "extension" diskette. The cartridge version was called Atari Microsoft BASIC II .

The programming language was produced for the Atari 400 , Atari 800 , Atari XL and Atari XE devices.
