Audio scrobbler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Audioscrobbler was an internet-based network service , where you could have your individual music profile created after free registration. After the merger in 2005, the functions are integrated into Last.fm.

Audioscrobbler registered all the tracks played by a user via an extension in the user's music playback program. In this way, Audioscrobbler was able to recommend other user groups that came close to his musical taste. It was also possible to use the Audioscrobbler website to search for users who have a similar taste in music to your own and to exchange ideas with them.

Extensions existed for many music playback programs such as Winamp , iTunes or foobar2000 in order to be able to use the service comfortably; some programs such as Amarok supported audio scrobblers by default. Amarok also used audio scrobbler to recommend other artists and pieces to users.

On August 9, 2005, Audioscrobbler merged with Last.fm , whose service enables the user to listen to a radio program that either plays the songs that the user has heard with his playback program (useful e.g. when the latter does not have his audio data available has) or songs that users hear with a similar musical taste.
