The nature reserve Auf dem Hahne is a 3.62 hectare nature reserve (NSG) in the municipality of Finnentrop in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located in the middle of the Finnentrop district of Heggen . It was temporarily secured in 2003 when the Attendorn - Heggen-Helden landscape plan was drawn up and designated by the district council in 2006 with landscape plan no. 3 Attendorn - Heggen-Helden . The NSG is one of ten sub-areas of the fauna-flora-habitat area, beech forests, limestone semi -dry grasslands and rocks south of Finnentrop (DE-4813-301).

Area description

NSG Auf dem Hahne is the remainder of a shallow hill made of mass limestone. The southern part of the hill was mined by a quarry. The abandoned quarry was not included in the NSG and is used as a commercial area. The rock face of the quarry is used as a climbing area at Unterer Elberskamp .

On the north-western slope of the hill there is a larger limestone grassland . On the western edge of the hill there are vegetable acid pointers on the lower slope such as heather, English gorse and hairy gorse . At the southern edge there is a small, apparently anointed deposit of pasque flower . Since the poor grass is no longer grazed, blackthorn bushes become overgrown . In the northeast of the hill, on the edge of the quarry, there is a narrow, high rock nose with crevice vegetation and the rocky plant community. The barred entrance to the Wilhelmshöhle is on the eastern edge of the NSG .

Climbing area Unterer Elberskamp

At the NSG Auf dem Hahne , the Unterer Elberskamp climbing area is located in the former quarry there. The rock faces of the former quarry are used as the Unterer Elberskamp climbing area. The NSG Auf dem Hahne begins after the climbing rock area. The Unterer Elberskamp climbing area has no connection to the NSG Elberskamp , which is only about 100 meters southwest of the NSG Auf dem Hahne .
