The emigration center ( Utvandrarnas hus ) in Växjö houses the Swedish emigration archive ( Svenska Emigrantinstitutet ) and a migration museum .

More than a million Swedes immigrated to North America between the mid-19th and early 20th centuries, including the ancestors of well-known American personalities. The Swedish writer Vilhelm Moberg addressed this emigration in his main work. The Swedish Emigration Archive, founded in 1965, as well as a library and a museum with a focus on Swedish emigration to the United States are located in the Emigration Center . Vilhelm Moberg sponsored the emigration center and left him his extensive collection of materials.
