Avocatorium

An avocatorium or letter of recall (Latin Literae avocatoriae , French Décret de rappel ) is a historical public announcement issued by state authorities , through which relatives living abroad were asked to return home.

In the 19th century , avocatoriums only occurred insofar as governments sometimes used avocatoriums to draw the attention of their subjects living in enemy territory to the vulnerability to which they were exposed there , when the peace was imminent .

Avocatoria in this sense no longer exist today, but in crisis areas or after diplomatic relations have been broken off , the members of the respective nations are still evacuated through the embassies on a voluntary basis .
