Rifle light
Büchsenlicht (from Büchse meaning "hunting rifle") describes favorable lighting conditions for hunting in the twilight in the morning and in the evening. Even with strong moonlight ( full moon ) one speaks of sufficient rifle light. In Germany it is forbidden to use artificial light sources or night sights when hunting . Hunting at night is prohibited for certain animals. Night time is then 1.5 hours after sunset to 1.5 hours before sunrise.
As a rule of thumb , the rifle light is sufficient if you can still see the dirt under your fingernails with your arm outstretched or distinguish a red from a green thread.
Because of the increasing need to prevent game damage , caused by the overpopulation of wild boars , moon brightness calendars are published in hunting magazines, from which the times of the best can light of the respective moon phase can be read.
Rifle light is particularly suitable for observing crepuscular animals .
