Junkerhof / Bürgerhof

The Junkerhof ( Polish : Dwór Mieszczański - Bürgerhof ) in Toruń (Thorn) was the summer residence of the St. George Brotherhood . This association of patricians had owned the Artus Court since 1310/1311 , in which the Second Peace of Thorner was concluded in 1466 .

history

After the citizens of the city had destroyed the castle of the Teutonic Order in the city in 1454 , the brotherhood built a second domicile in 1489 next to the "Warte", the southwest corner tower of the castle, probably made of bricks from the castle ruins. Since then it has been incorporated into the old town wall facing the bank of the Vistula and stands between the western moat and the bridge gate, in Polish Brama Mostowa (PL) . The building was later used as a school. The Gothic character was temporarily lost through several renovations, but was restored in the 19th century.

present

Today the Dwór Mieszczański is used by the Association of Twin Cities of Toruń. He is also called “Dwór Bractwa Św. Jerzego “(court of the George Brotherhood) called. Both names can cause confusion: Junkers and citizens were very different social groups, and “Hof der Georgsbruderschaft” is also a characterization of the Arthurian court.
