BS 15000

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BS 15000 - British Standard 15000 - is in the UK by BSI standard developed in which the requirements are documented for a professional IT service management.

Goal setting

BS 15000 IT Service Management serves as a measurable quality standard for IT Service Management (ITSM). For this purpose, the necessary generic processes are specified and represented in BS 15000 ("Objectives and Controls") that an organization must establish in order to be able to provide and manage IT services in a defined quality.

The successful implementation of BS 15000 can be certified. This is the only way to objectively measure and certify the successful implementation of IT service management using an international standard (Note: ITIL certification of a company is not possible, as only individuals and not organizations can be certified).

BS 15000 is based on the process descriptions as described by the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and supplements them in a complementary way.

Components of BS 15000

The BS 15000 consists of the following documents:

1. BS 15000 Part 1 - “Specification for Service Management” The first part of the standard (BS 15000-1) specifies the requirements for an organization in order to provide and manage IT services in a defined quality for customers. It does not matter whether the customer is internal or external.

2. BS 15000 Part 2 - “Code of Practice for Service Management” Within the second part of BS 15000, the requirements of the first part are supplemented by recommendations and instructions for establishing IT service management. The part “Code of Practice for Service Management” follows the same basic structures as the first part.

3. PD 0005 - "IT Service Management - A Managers Guide" In addition to BS 15000, PD (Published Document) 0005 of the BSI (British Standards Institute) contains a management description on the objectives and content of IT service management on the basis of BS 15000 and ITIL.

4. PD 0015 - “IT Service Management Self-Assessment Workbook” With the help of PD 0015, a self-assessment of the existing processes in relation to the specifications and the best practice of BS 15000 can be carried out. Corresponding questions are described for each process.

BS 15000 was transferred to ISO 20000

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has basically accepted BS 15000 in the form of ISO 20000. On December 15, 2005, BS 15000 was transferred to ISO 20000 and officially published as ISO / IEC 20000: 2005 .
