Ras ir-Raħeb

Baħrija is a small village in Malta that belongs to the city of Rabat and has 3,000 inhabitants. The name means something like moth . The Counts of Moscati received the place as a fief from the Grand Masters of the Order of Malta .

There are two churches in Baħrija, an old one (which is no longer in use) and a newer one, built in 1984 and dedicated to St. Martin of Tours was consecrated.

The most important festival in Baħrija is therefore also that of St. Martin of Tours, which is celebrated every year on November 11th. At this festival, the young children are given a sack full of various nuts and fresh fruits. Another tradition that only exists in Baħrija is a mass, which is held on the 1st Sunday after St. Martin's feast, and in which many things can be won in various lotteries.
