The small Bac Lieu bird sanctuary is located in South Vietnam, Bac Lieu Province in the Mekong Delta and has an area of 127 hectares.

The area was added to the Cac-San-Chim Nature Reserve in 1997 , which combines several isolated protected areas on the south coast.

The very fertile and agriculturally intensively used rice-growing area in the delta has a small piece of forest - the last remnants of the original forest, as well as seasonally flooded grassland areas and mangroves ( Lumnitzera racemosa ) occur in the area. The reserve is surrounded by rice fields, which define the landscape of the Mekong Delta. About 930 birds of the brown-cheeked shag ( Phalacrocorax fuscicollis ) live and breed in the area.
