The Bad Homburg Palace Concerts is a series of concerts in Bad Homburg Palace .

history

After the series of Bad Homburg Castle Concerts was discontinued in 1995, professional concerts in the Bad Homburg Castle Church were suspended for about five years. The organizer at that time was the Kuratorium Bad Homburg Castle Church e. V.

The idea of organizing a new series of the Bad Homburg Palace Concerts came from Karl-Werner Joerg, who is still in charge of the artistic and organizational management. An “Orchestra in residence” will be a guest in the castle church for the entire season. The conductor is the winner of the Bad Homburg Conducting Prize, which was held annually. There are also selected soloists. Stylistically, the series was designed from the beginning on a mixture of different epochs from the baroque to the avant-garde.

The new “calendar” began on September 18, 2000 with the final round of the first Bad Homburg Conductor's Prize, and on October 20, 2000 with the first concert in the new series of palace concerts.

Bad Homburg Conductor Prize - German Conductor Prize

Due to the connection with the Bad Homburg Conductors Award, the only competition for young conductors in Germany when it was founded, the series had a characteristic that secured a high level of attention from the specialist audience from the start.

The “move” of the conductor's award from Bad Homburg to Berlin marked a turning point. After the conducting competition took place six times with success in Bad Homburg, it was held for the first time on October 8, 2006 in the Berlin Philharmonic. Karl-Werner Joerg, who was also able to convince the German Music Council and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, came up with the idea and the concept to support this concept. Since that date, the conductors who conduct the palace concerts have received awards in Berlin.

Further awards of the German Conductor Prize took place in 2009, 2011 and 2013 in the Berlin Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt. The orchestra in the final was the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.

Bad Homburg song and chamber music festival

With the establishment of the Bad Homburg Chamber Music Festival in 2006, together with the violinist Christian Tetzlaff, another cornerstone was set for the development of the Bad Homburg Palace Concerts. The idea of creating a podium for young, exceptionally talented artists should not only apply to conductors, but also to instrumentalists. With the establishment of the “newcomer” and the “artist portrait”, the various stages of development of young musicians are taken into account. Together with the chamber orchestra concerts, you have the opportunity to offer highly talented young people as chamber musicians and with an orchestra at a high level. Further events of the chamber music festival took place in 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2016. In 2014 and 2016, tenor Christian Elsner added to the artistic direction.

Bad Homburg Children's Palace Concerts

The Bad Homburg Children's Palace Concerts were launched in 2011 for children between the ages of five and ten. These concerts take place in different places in Bad Homburg Castle and create a connection between classical music and the historical rooms.

Master pianists

With the purchase of the concert grand in 2012, the idea of the “master pianists” series was implemented. In this new series the piano is played at a high level.
