Schruns train station with bus stops

The Schruns train station is the terminus of Montafonerbahn and is located in the market town of Schruns .

history

The first plans for the construction of the Montafonerbahn began with the opening of the Arlbergbahn in 1884. In 1904, the Montafonerbahn AG was able to take over the electricity station on the Litz , which was privately built by Wilhelm Mayer in 1897 , and thus supply Schruns and the Montafonerbahn with electricity.

On December 18, 1905, the railway went into operation as one of the first electrically operated standard gauge local railways of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and operations at Schruns station began.

In 2001, the station building was redesigned by the architect Hans Hohenfellner to make it easier to switch to other means of public transport. The east-facing ground floor extension from the 1930s was demolished and replaced by a transparent structure. The bus stops are also located here.

Behind (east) the train station are the coach house and workshops, as well as the administration building of the Montafonerbahn AG.
