from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baker Cemetery is a cemetery in the Texas town Kemp . It is located about eight kilometers south of the city on the connecting road to Tolosa .

The cemetery was originally designed as a burial place for the Baker family. The married couple John and Eliza Baker came to Texas as settlers from Illinois in 1835 . When their youngest son William died in 1848, they buried him on their land. This family burial site gradually became a public cemetery for the settler families living in the neighborhood and their descendants.

The cemetery now covers approximately 1.2 acres and has around 800 graves, including those of veterans of the Republic of Texas Army , American Civil War , World War II, and Korean War . He is maintained by a support association founded in 1984.
