Balloon expulsion test

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The balloon expulsion test is used for the differentiated diagnosis of chronic constipation ( constipation ), as well as in patients with severe constipation, especially if the patients have the impression that they have an urge to defecate but cannot defecate. For the test, a small balloon attached to a tube is inserted into the rectum and filled with water via the tube. The patient is then asked to press the balloon out of the intestine. Whether and, if so, with how much support through additional weights (30–300 g) this succeeds, it can be seen which type of defecation disorder is in question.
