Barawucha
Barawucha (Belarus. Боравуха, Russian Боровуха) is an urban settlement in Belarus , about 10 km northwest of Polotsk , not far from the Daugava (location 55 ° 35 ′ N , 28 ° 35 ′ E, ). With Novopolotsk the place now forms an administrative unit.
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1812, and in 1866, when the Vitebsk - Polotsk railway was built , the place was given a train station. During the 1930s Barawucha got the character of an urban settlement through barrack-like buildings. In 1941, after heavy fighting, Barawucha fell into German hands. The barrack-like complex (called StaLag 354) is u. a. Used as a prisoner-of-war camp for Soviet soldiers, from autumn 1942 to spring 1943 initially as accommodation for RAD departments that had moved here from the front , whose teams, all born in 1924, formed the basis of the newly established 719 Infantry Field Training Regiment .
Before the reconquest in 1944, the barracks complex was destroyed.
In the post-war period, the rebuilt complex housed two Soviet air force regiments that were deployed in Czechoslovakia in 1968 and in Afghanistan from 1979 . An airfield was created for these air force units.
