Barcus-Berry is an American musical instrument manufacturer based in Louisville, Kentucky .

history

In 1963, experiments initiated by the violinist John Berry and the electronics visionary Les Barcus resulted in the development of the first piezo- crystal pick-up for musical instruments. As a result of this discovery, the Barcus-Berry company introduced numerous innovations into the music industry, such as the first electric violin ( Violectra ), the first successful piezo pickups for guitar, piano and concert harp, and the first commercially used active direct boxes , the first combination of belt button and jack socket and the first piezo pickup under the saddle of the instrument.

The Barcus-Berry company produces pickups and preamplifiers for guitars, brass instruments, woodwind instruments, pianos and harps, but also electro-acoustic violins.

One of the most famous musical instruments of the company Barcus-Berry is the Violectra that of known jazz musicians such as Jean-Luc Ponty , Michał Urbaniak and Elek Bacsik is played.
