The barrage (in French le barrage , German: the lock ) is a French technical term from road cycling .

The barrage refers to a measure by the sports director or commissioner in road bike races: If riders fall back from the peloton in a race , "a barrage is set up" by instructing the support vehicles to stand behind these riders at a distance of (usually) Let it fall back for at least a minute. This is to prevent the drivers from being able to catch up with the main field in the slipstream of the vehicles. If drivers have fallen behind due to a defect or a fall, no barrage is usually set up.
