Bascule

The bascule (French bascule., Seesaw flip-flop) means:

  • Part of the break-open rifle in weapons technology; see receiver (weapon)
  • In locking technology, the box of a push rod lock; see receiver (lock)
  • When the horse jumps free, the tension-induced arching of the back; see Bascule
  • In bridge construction, the parts of the bascule bridges that are designed as rockers and that can be folded upwards. The Tower Bridge in London was at the time of its completion in 1894, the largest bascule bridge.
