history

Mentioned for the first time in 1356 in German and Latin ( platea agriculturae ), it took its name from agriculture, which means building , arable farming, etc. In fact, the western as well as the southern Rostock city periphery was strongly influenced by agriculture. The residents of the Baustraße not only worked in the city field behind the nearby city wall, but also maintained barns and farmsteads in the Baustraße, mostly on behalf of the urban upper class, who owned these objects. In the Hanseatic city of Rostock, urban and rural life were closely linked. The construction road was mainly inhabited by farm workers and simple craftsmen and was therefore only built on with stalls. The stalls on the west side almost adjoined the city wall.

After it was destroyed in the four-night bombardment of the British Air Force at the end of April 1942, it was not rebuilt and has now completely disappeared from the cityscape.
