background

At the end of the Second World War and in the years thereafter, millions of people in the historic German east and settlement areas were victims of flight, displacement and deportation. They lost their property, their home and many their lives.

Bavaria would like to keep the memory of these events alive for future generations and call for responsibility and reconciliation.

This day of remembrance is a contribution to democratic awareness in Bavaria and serves the task of international understanding in Europe. He does not relativize the memory of other victims of the National Socialist tyranny and the Second World War. Rather, it is a day of remembrance and a warning to uphold human rights, for peace and freedom. Expulsion and deportation should remain outlawed as a means of politics in accordance with the charter of German expellees .
