Belde

Belde (Turkish; German "small town" or "locality") is the official name for a small urban settlement in Turkey . The term Kasaba is also rarely used.

The term Belde is used for settlements between 2,000 and 20,000 inhabitants. Settlements with a population below 2,000 are referred to as Köy (village) and with more than 20,000 residents as Şehir (city). The state is represented in the small towns and cities by the mayor ( Belediye başkanı ).

Culture

Kasaba is also the title of a 1997 film by Nuri Bilge Ceylan .
